My Old-Fashioned “Poor Biscuits” Recipe – Straight From Our Family Archive
A thrifty WW2-style biscuit recipe, perfect for last-minute treats, dunking in tea, or adding to your homemade hampers – emailed straight to you when you join Grow Make Learn.

A Family History
During the war, my family made these simple little biscuits when money, eggs, and butter were all in short supply.
They’re affectionately known as “Poor Biscuits” – but honestly, they feel rich in all the ways that matter: comforting, nostalgic, and perfect with a cup of tea.
I still bake them now for Christmas hampers and cosy winter afternoons.
They use basic store-cupboard ingredients, a hilariously precise “half an egg”, and absolutely no fuss – ideal for tight budgets, tiny kitchens, and busy lives.
Now I’d love to share the recipe with you, along with a printable version you can tuck into your own homemade gifts.
